“When I was hungry you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I was a stranger, you welcomed me, and when I was naked, you gave me clothes to wear. When I was sick, you took care of me, and when I was in jail, you visited me.” Matthew 25:35
Mission & Service Fund
This large outreach program is administered through the United Church of Canada of Canada. It touches all parts of Canada and the world and plays a very important part of our church life. All funds donated to M&S are paid directly to the United Church of Canada which is used to extend our Outreach to Canadians in need and to international projects. Most years Sydenham has met its M&S pledge and with everyone’s support we will continue to meet and to exceed our pledges. Please continue your M&S support.
KAIROS unites churches and religious organization in a faithful ecumenical response to the call to “do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God” Micah 6:8. We deliberate on issues of common concern, advocate for social change and join with people of faith and goodwill in action for social transformation.
Canadian Foodgrains Bank
Canadian Foodgrains Bank: Sydenham has supported this program for several years now under the direction of the Outreach Commission. It provides funds to local farmers to grow grain or corn which is donated to the Food Grains Bank to help feed the World’s hungry.
Brantford Food Bank
The Outreach Commission during different months of the year hold congregational competitions (i.e. right side vs. left side), and the winner is the Food Bank, but the competition spurs us on to give more .
Sunday Supper Club
PLEASE NOTE: THE SUNDAY SUPPER CLUB HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY STOPPED DUE TO COVID-19.
The Sunday Supper Club currently has five provider groups taking turns planning, setting up, preparing, serving and cleaning up in order to provide a nutritious meal to our guests every Sunday from November 1 to April 30 every year.
These groups are sponsored by various faith traditions within the community to provide the clients with a wide variety of meals. These meals are also listed in the City of Brantford food calendar.
Grant money is received from the City of Brantford but donations are the backbone of this project. Personal and corporate donations are received as are food donations from the Food Bank and other donors who provide fresh produce on occasion. However, our most important donations come from our volunteers who share their time and talents to make this program a success.
