KAIROS unites churches and religious organization in a faithful ecumenical response to the call to “do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God” Micah 6:8. We deliberate on issues of common concern, advocate for social change and join with people of faith and goodwill in action for social transformation.
Canadian Foodgrains Bank
Canadian Foodgrains Bank: Sydenham has supported this program for several years now under the direction of the Outreach Commission. It provides funds to local farmers to grow grain or corn which is donated to the Food Grains Bank to help feed the World’s hungry.
Brantford Food Bank
The Outreach Commission during different months of the year hold congregational competitions (i.e. right side vs. left side), and the winner is the Food Bank, but the competition spurs us on to give more .
The Sydenham Heritage Open Door Breakfast is an Outreach program held from the first week of November to the last week of April. The breakfasts are held on alternate Wednesday mornings from 8 a.m. – 10a.m. Guests are fed a healthy breakfast including porridge, cereal, fruit, and muffins. A hot meal of either eggs, pancakes and a meat of either sausages, ham or bacon. Guests can choose items from the give away table and select some gently used clothing, including coats and warm sweaters. The Breakfast is always listed in the City of Brantford food calendar.
Sunday Supper Club
The Sunday Supper Club currently has five provider groups taking turns planning, setting up, preparing, serving and cleaning up in order to provide a nutritious meal to our guests every Sunday from November 1 to April 30 every year.
These groups are sponsored by various faith traditions within the community to provide the clients with a wide variety of meals. These meals are also listed in the City of Brantford food calendar.
Grant money is received from the City of Brantford but donations are the backbone of this project. Personal and corporate donations are received as are food donations from the Food Bank and other donors who provide fresh produce on occasion. However, our most important donations come from our volunteers who share their time and talents to make this program a success.
