Paul’s Biography

Rev. Dr. Paul Shepherd was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, but has lived most of his life in the Toronto area. He lived 1 year in England and 1 year in Sweden.

Paul completed a PhD in atmospheric physics at York University, and worked for over 15 years as an environmental scientist in the public and private sectors, primarily in the area of resource management. He is also a software developer. Paul moved from scientific work into ministry in the United Church of Canada in 2006 because he finds people more fascinating than numbers, and because of his deep love for the church.

Paul has held a number of interesting ministry positions in Southern Ontario, and comes to us from Rexdale, a place of deep need, or in Paul’s words, “A great place to have a church”. Paul is excited to come to Sydenham-Heritage UC because of its progressive approach to faith and its proximity to both Five Oaks and Six Nations.

Paul’s main passions in ministry are around community engagement, social justice and emotional/spiritual healing. He has a particular interest in forgiveness. Paul teaches and lives a progressive approach to Christian faith.

Paul and his partner Marjorie are delighted to be moving to Brantford, and are keen to explore the many cycling paths, among other things.

Paul’s hobbies include cycling, playing guitar, and hand drumming (djembe and doumbek) as well as travelling with family.
