LOBLAW Gift Cards

News stories have told us that Canadians were overcharged for the cost of some packaged bread products in Loblaw’s stores and other grocery stores across Canada. In response, they are offering customers a $25 Loblaw Gift Card, which can be used to purchase items sold in their grocery stores (including No Frills and Zehr’s) across Canada. Registering for and obtaining the $25 Loblaw Card is at www.LoblawCard.ca. Food banks across the country are asking Canadians to apply for the gift cards and donate them to food banks. If this idea appeals to you, our Pastoral Care Committee will welcome your gift cards to enhance our Benevolent Fund.

Mom moved into Dufferin Place in early June and has been getting settled since. Happy to be out of hospital that’s for sure!! She has been fairly stable in the nursing home and it’s adjacent to the hospital so makes it very easy for me to pop in whenever I can. It was difficult to accept staying in BC but makes the most sense. It’s too bad Mom could not see her many friends again she really misses the church. Mom’s many cards/letters from Brantford really boosted her spirits during her most challenging times. Thank you so much. Love Heather and Marilyn Marilyn’s Address: Dufferin Place – Arbutus Unit 1100 Dufferin Cres. Nanaimo, BC V9S 2B7

Financial FYI

Here is a quick financial update based on preliminary figures for January and February. During the first 2 months of 2018, the General Fund income averaged $3,425 per week. Our General Fund expenses averaged $4,950 per week.  This translates into a WEEKLY loss of $1,525. Please consider increasing your weekly contributions to the General Fund.

The board wants to remind you that there is always a current copy of the most recent approved minutes posted in Calder Hall on the board outside of the Fellowship Room. All previous minutes can be found in a binder on the table below the Outreach board (as of next week) for anyone wishing to check back on any decisions.

1. Rev Gert’s annual vacation is scheduled. He will be away Sundays from February 22 to March 18th. The Worship Committee has arranged for pulpit supply in his absence. We will be welcoming Gert back from vacation in time for Easter.

2. The board has finalized the 2018 budget which will be presented at the Annual meeting on February 18th. The Board requests you hold February 18th in your calendar and attend this important meeting.

3. You will have noted that there are no “special” offering envelopes in this year’s offering envelope boxes. You will be reminded throughout the year – both from the pulpit and the bulletin – utilize the “other” line on your regular envelopes on those special (such as Leprosy Sunday, Easter Sunday, Communion [Benevolent] Sundays) also on these Sundays “special envelopes” will be in the bulletin and the pew racks. The Board will track the level of donations for those “special Sunday’s and determine the need for special offering envelopes for 2019.

FundScrip fundraiser

The Outreach Committee is taking orders for gift cards from FundScrip. Gift cards are available for many major retailers. Order a grocery or gas card for your own use. Judy and Verna will be accepting your orders.

The order period runs from March 11th to April 8th. The cards will be available by April 22nd. The funds raised will be used to support next season’s Sunday Suppers.
